Introduction - About CNR ITABC

Submitted by sanfasal on

The Institute of Technologies Applied to the Cultural Heritage of CNR (ITABC), located in Rome, was founded in 1981 as a stand-alone centre of excellence in the field of the advanced researches in the cultural heritage. ITABC has developed several directions of research in multi and inter-disciplinary activities and applications at international and national level. The typical approach of these research activities is: from the fieldwork to the lab and vice versa; namely ITABC follows the whole process of diagnosis, knowledge, preservation, interpretation and communication of the cultural and virtual heritage. The Virtual Heritage Lab is a digital lab focused on digital projects in archaeology and in the cultural heritage. In the VHLab Desktop Virtual Reality applications in intra-site contexts (monuments, archaeological excavations) and in inter-sites contexts (archaeological landscapes) are developed. Different techniques are used (in activities such as survey, mapping, data managing and analyzing, archaeological sites and landscape reconstructions) in order to obtain Real Time Interactive 3Dimensional Virtual Reality environments.
