Virtual Museums

Virtual Museums are developed in accordance with a specific scope which can be: Educational (applications conceived and implemented with specific instructional purposes, well-defined educational objectives; they are directed to a well set up and identifiable target population, often used in formal educational settings); Edutainment (applications that use a gaming environment to convey specific information, trigger and foster learning. The idea behind the term edutainment is closely related to the concept of Serious Games [Chen & Michael, 2005]; Enhancement of Visitor Experience (applications that provide additional or complementary information to a non-virtual museum); Entertainment (applications conceived and developed for the users’ fun and enjoyment, also sustaining informal learning processes); Promotion (aimed at advertising and promoting specific cultural heritage); Research (applications meant to support and enhance research in the field of cultural heritage and other fields such as: ICT, AR, AI, Virtual Worlds and Serious Games).
