D8.9 EU Virtual Museum Observatory (EVMO)

This deliverable lists information about competences that are useful for the virtual museum domain and lists applications, institutions and SMEs having those competences or having developed Virtual Museum projects, applications or tools.

The goal of this list is to provide context, in-depth information and new developments concerning a range of competences, linked to virtual museums. A list of useful other resources are also added in the last chapter.

For example, most of the “natural interaction” developments within V-MusT are based upon the Kinect1 and Kinect2 cameras. The provided links do not only give information in what aspects a Kinect2 camera is better or different than a Kinect1 camera (which is quite crucial in designing spaces where such a natural interaction setup will be used) but also that the Kinect-cameras are based upon hardware and software from PrimeSense, which recently has been bought by Apple. This means that it is quite unlikely that Microsoft will continue its line of Kinect cameras, so that it is really necessary to make new natural interaction developments based upon Kinect independent of the sensor to guarantee that such developments will be sustainable and maintainable for the coming years.

This list is only a start, it will be kept updated by the members of the V-MusT Competence Centre, and act as a starting point for developing new applications. This list does not claim by no means to be complete, even not in specific areas, as this is impossible.
