Within the V-MOVE program, the CNR-ITABC Rome in Italy is offering a position for an intern in the field of Landscape reconstructions and web3D interaction. Interested researchers and professionals may apply through the Call4Mobility.

Brief description of the unit hosting the internship:

The Institute of Technologies Applied to the Cultural Heritage of CNR (ITABC), located in Rome, was founded in 1981 as a stand-alone centre of excellence in the field of the advanced researches in the cultural heritage. ITABC has developed several directions of research in multi and inter-disciplinary activities and applications at international and national level. The typical approach of these research activities is: from the fieldwork to the lab and vice versa; namely ITABC follows the whole process of diagnosis, knowledge, preservation, interpretation and communication of the cultural and virtual heritage.

The Virtual Heritage Lab is a digital lab focused on digital projects in archaeology and in the cultural heritage. In the VHLab Desktop Virtual Reality applications in intra-site contexts (monuments, archaeological excavations) and in inter-sites contexts (archaeological landscapes) are developed. Different techniques are used (in activities such as survey, mapping, data managing and analyzing, archaeological sites and landscape reconstructions) in order to obtain Real Time Interactive 3Dimensional Virtual Reality environments.

Landscape reconstruction and virtual reality application development

Internship profile:

Essential

  • Degree in humanities, architecture or computer science

And experience in one or more of the following:

  • Virtual heritage
  • 3d modelling
  • terrain and landscape modelling
  • Virtual Reality software development
  • Augmented Reality software development

Preferred period:

March-June; September-December in 2012, 2013, 2014

Min/max duration:

12 - 24 weeks

Accommodation support:

Free “hall of residence” for 1 month; subsequent months at a special rate. Support for cost of canteen lunches.

Facilities and Supervision:

Equipment: we have all the software necessary to develop the projects: PC workstation with 3D Studio Max, Blender, Grass, VNS. Internet access.

Supervision hours: 8 to 14 hours for week (that depend from the project)
